Give English Oak full sun, where it will get at least six hours of sunlight. It adapts to many types of well-drained soils, even clay.

Cover the root system with a three-inch layer of pine bark or pine straw mulch. Then, pull the mulch back from the trunk at least six inches.

Carefully water your young tree to get it established in your soil. Even though these are robust plants that can survive periodic drought, we recommend giving them a regular schedule of water in dry weather.

Feed them an annual fertilizer designed for acid-loving trees. Please follow the application rates on the label.

If needed, you can prune any broken branches or train up the canopy in late winter. Plan out your pruning cuts before you start.
