Chokeberry is a useful native landscape shrub…and one of our most popular rising new best-sellers! The word is out…and professional garden designers have fallen hard for these attractive shrubs.
Low Scape Hedger® Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa ‘UCONNAM166’ PP# 28,831) is a special variety that stays compact and gives you something beautiful to look at in all seasons. Make the most of your landscape with their beautiful flowers, lustrous leaves, tidy growth habit, and striking fall foliage.
You’ll be thrilled with their fiery red and orange fall color display. Let these native shrubs light up your late season get-togethers.
You’ll also enjoy the look of the large, dark purple berries in the fall and early winter. Songbirds love them, but you might want to get out there and harvest your fair share, before the berries start to shrivel in August for the best flavor.
After all, these are the incredibly healthy Aronia berries you find at the organic grocery store. Grow your own to use, or bag and sell at Farmers Markets..
Aronia berries produce more antioxidants and phenolic content than blueberries! These tannin-rich berries can be added to smoothies and much more.
People are crafting their own wine, preserves, sauces, and syrups. Dry them for use later, or freeze them whole for use in baked goods, such as pies, crisps and cobblers.
Even if you miss a year taking advantage of Low Scape Hedger berries…you’ll still feel good about your choice. This plant is a wonderful resource for local pollinators and songbirds, too.
Both hard-working and super adaptable, Low Scape Hedger was field-tested for many years to earn their status as a Proven Winners® selection. It performs beautifully in nearly any soil type; in full sun or partial shade.
Relish their low-maintenance nature throughout your landscape…no matter the size. They are a perfect fit to define courtyards and small space gardens. You can even keep them in outdoor containers on your patio!

How to Use Low Scape Hedger® Chokeberry in the Landscape
Create a showy space for your family and friends with the help of these marvelous narrow shrubs. Plant them 18 inches apart on center for a fast hedge.
Let them grow naturally as an exceptionally modern hedge. Or, trim them after flowering for a manicured look.
The lush, glossy foliage grows to the ground and dense branch structure provides a perfect scaffold for privacy screening. Run them along your property line or screen your patio seating.
Use them as single specimens, as well. Augment the look of mature evergreens in your foundation plantings with their outstanding red-orange blaze of fall color.
Include as a pretty backdrop for perennial borders or Butterfly Gardens. Repeat them along the middle layer of your mixed shrub border.
Turn any yard into an Edible Landscape…the easy way. Aronia makes a lovely focal point planted in a mulched orchard for their fall fruit.
You can also use them to control erosion on slopes or embankments. Create a vibrant display with a collection of Aronia Chokeberries from Nature Hills.
We’re thrilled to offer so many varieties of edible landscape plants in our extensive online catalog!
Partner these beauties with the blooms and berries of Serviceberry, Elderberry and the bold texture of tall Hazelnut shrubs. Use a Shagbark Hickory tree for shade.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Provide Low Scape Hedger at least four hours of sunlight a day. Please note that the more sun they receive, the more fruit they’ll produce.
Chokeberry is blissfully easy care. They’ll put up with soils that get periodically wet and dry. However, we do recommend that you supply a moderate amount of water on a regular basis to keep them at their tip-top health.
Add a three-inch layer of mulch over the root zone. Please pull the mulch back to avoid directly touching the stems.
Wait until after the spring flowering is done before you prune any crossing or damaged branches. Cut at a 45-degree angle above an outward-facing bud for best results.
Although these aren’t a favorite, we advise the use of Deer Repellent spray if you live with hungry deer in your area. Use it on the first day you plant, and follow directions to reapply.
Include Low Scape Hedger Chokeberry for a glossy, professional look. You’ll appreciate their unfussy nature and many ornamental attributes. Order today!
