Fragrant, Versatile, Wonderful

Native to New Zealand, the Lemonwood (Pittosporum eugenioides) has been used by the Maori both for perfume and as gum to freshen their breath. They called this tree ‘Tarata’, and it’s not your “everyday” plant you see everywhere. We at Nature Hills feel privileged to offer such a special treat.

This attractive broadleaved evergreen tree is prized for its pale bark, and large, glossy bright yellow-green foliage with cute wavy edges. Yellow flower clusters bloom in early Spring and are held aloft like creamy scoops of fragrant lemon sorbet. Butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators will smother your Lemonwood flowers, it’s one of Nature’s special shows.

Lemonwood can be used as a wonderful screen if left unpruned. The upright habit makes it a perfect choice to use along a property line, or to block a busy and noisy street view. The Lemonwood tree is perfect for screening, or some people prune it up to use as a gorgeous and memorable multi-stemmed specimen tree. A Lemonwood tree will develop a lovely, rounded canopy.

Because the Lemonwood has fragrant leaves, you might consider bringing them inside to use as filler in cut flower arrangements. How wonderful to have such a resource right outside your doorstep!

Buy your Lemonwood tree today – we will not be able to keep these in stock long.
